Vayalar Baburaj

Vayalar Baburaj ( K.C. Mathew) is a renowned and popular stage artist of Kerala. He hails from Vayalar in the district of Alappuzha. He has staged the popular art form of Kerala known as Kathaprasangam in more than 3200 stages. Recognizing his contributions, the Government of Kerala (Sangitha Nataka Academy) awarded him in the year 2004. He was also awarded the highest honor for a Kathikan "Kathika Sresht" in 2009. He is also an active worker of Indian National Congress and at present is the convener of state Coconut Cell, a wing of Karshaka Congress. He is active in the Church activities. He was a member of the pastoral council of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly and he works in the anti alcoholic movement of which he was the president of the Archdiocesan committee. He is the founder and the general secretary of Akila Kerala Kalakara Kshema Samiti under whose banner many artists have procured benefits from the government. He has served in different capacities such as the secretary of Kathaprasanga Kala Sanghatana, General Secretary of District Karshaka Congress, jury for many state and district level school-university competitions, Campaigning Officer of the Coconut Development Board, Captain of the Vimochana Samaram, etc.
